Choosing a Course

I know basic stitching but I want to become really confident — where should I start?

Priya Raman asks

A question we hear often
I am 34 and from Chennai. I can stitch simple clothes for my family, but I have never learned tailoring in a proper structured way and I don't want to start from zero if I don't have to. I am hoping to eventually take small orders from home.

ONSA's Answer

You're right to want a proper starting point, Priya. If you've already been stitching for your family, starting a course from absolute zero would waste your time and probably bore you too. What you actually need is someone to check where your basics stand and place you correctly — not the same beginner syllabus as someone who's never touched a machine. Before joining anything, ask to see the syllabus and ask directly, 'where would I start, given what I already know?' And since your goal is to eventually take small orders, make sure the course actually gets you to garments you'd be comfortable selling, not just practice samples. That's the real test of whether a course fits you.
